Health Benefits of Garlic

As my nose run while I lay in bed, I reached up to grab some tissue and thought, I really can't stand having a runny nose. Then, I remembered a conversation I had with my dad about my mother drinking garlic everyday to build her immune system. Granted, I think that's a bit drastic, but maybe she's on to something. What are the health benefits of garlic?

So I decided to do some research and here's what I found (A lot of the info repeated most of what I found on Reader's Digest so I posted most of their notes here):

Benefits of Carrot Oil - Featuring KC Bellot

Today's blog features KC Bellot, my home girl from like Elementary school. Talk about going waaaay back. She has been one of my blog followers for awhile and today I wanted to feature her and her natural hair. Here are some recent pictures she shared with me.

Natural Products for Hair Growth

She told me that she used carrot oil in two forms:

Natural Products for hair growth

Natural Products for hair growth

I have never used any of these products, but she attests to how nice they work in her hair to deal with any split ends she encounters and as a great moisturizer. I decided to look up some more information about carrot oil and found that a carrot oil treatment prevents split ends and strengthens hair. so person with weak thinning hair would benefit from using this product. (not that other people can't use this product, just saying) Carrots are filled with great nutrients like vitamin A, C and E as well as beta-carotene. It protects hair and skin from the damaging effects of weather, pollution, and  treatments as well as stimulates hair growth. This product is a 2-in-1 caring for BOTH skin and hair. I'm excited about this product now and I would like to thank KC Bellot for sharing.

I plan on purchasing this really soon and use as a hot oil treatment. Live on purpose! MuAh & CiAo!

Hair Essentials - Rosemary Oil for hair growth

I FINALLY got some rosemary oil to make this hair growth formula and I was super exctied until I realized that I'm still trying the Wen products for a few more weeks without any additionaluse from other products. WOMP. But when I do try it, I'm hoping the results are great. Rosemary is said to stimulate growth in the hair by stimulating cell division and dilates blood vessels. This stimulates hair follicles that produces new hair growth.

Whole Foods have a really small portion of rosemary oil for about $5. Keep in mind that rosemary oil has to be diulted in something else like shampoo or conditioner or even with other essentials oils. When I am able to put the treatment into my hair myself, I will let you know what I have tried and then update you with the results a month thereafter.

Until my next post, continue to Live on Purpose in 2013. MuAh & CiAo!

Hair Essentials - Natural Fros Galore

HAIR AND MORE HAIR!!!! I washed my hair last night and retwisted it...didn't do any special conditioning treatment. I didn't think my hair needed it. I just allowed my conditioner to sit for 15 minutes before washing it out with cold water. Wash in hot, condition and rinse in cold. Well, i did twists...again. I noticed some growth and I'm stille xicted about my natural journey. I have less fairy knots and less split ends. I still have alot of HIH (hands in hair) issues..between myself, coworkers, and friends, but it's okay. Everything with time. I wanted to share a few pics of natural hair Ir eally enjoy, including a couple pics of my lil cousins. Love their hair! That Trinidadian and other island mix can truly yield a great texture for braiding and styling natural hair. Oh and my hair grew a teeny weeny bit. It's a lil over a half inch...I colored my hair about 5 weeks ago or so So I guess an inch every 2 months or so. Keep in mind that I will be trimming in between there, so i'd prob only be retaining half of what I grow every 2 months. Sigh, this track to bra strap length hair is def going to be a struggle! Anyhoo, enjoy the pics!

Hair Essentials - Olive Oil for Hair

So, I've heard people talking about using olive oil for hair. In fact, in a previous post I have a picture of using olive oil in addition to aloe vera juice on my scalp to relieve dandruff and create a balance of pH on my scalp. So, yes, olive oil works wonders. Here's a very easy way to do an olive oil treatment:

Instructions

    • 1 Pour 1/2 cup of olive oil into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat it in the microwave for 20 seconds, or until warm.
(CAUTION: high heat damages the nutrients and the smell of the product)
    • 2 Place a towel over your shoulders to protect clothing.
    • 3 Put a small amount of olive oil in the palm of your hand and massage it into your hair. If you have a dry scalp, massage a small amount into the scalp, as well. If you have oily hair, massage it into your hair, but stay at least 1/2 inch from the scalp. Repeat the process of massaging small amounts at a time into the hair until the hair is entirely covered with olive oil.
    • 4 Place your hair loosely on your head and cover it with a plastic shower cap.
    • 5 Relax for at least 30 minutes while the olive oil is treating your hair.
    • 6 Shampoo the olive oil out of your hair with a mild shampoo. Give a light condition with your usual conditioner. Rinse it out completely. You will see that the olive oil treatment makes you hair much softer and much more manageable, as well as gives it some added shine.

Upon researching more, I found that olive oil is used :
1. To promote healthy hair growth
2. To treat hair damaged by heat or chemicals
3. In mixtures to relieve an itchy scalp
4. To moisturize skin when used proportionately (with African American skin)
5. To soften cuticles
6. As a natural lubricant-----need I say more
7. To ease snoring
8. To prevents gallstones and soothes ulcers (who would have thought!)
9. For other household nuissances like squeaky door or stuck zipper
You must know that the more refinement done on the oil, the less nutrients the oil has and the more expensive the product becomes. You would think the more refining (more work) done on the oil will result in an increase in the price. But ah, well, you can't always get what you want. Tell me what you use olive oil for or what you know listed here that works for you.
