For the Record - Am I Pretty?

This is the question asked by so many women and girls of all ages, colors and sizes, Am I Pretty? But how can one determine they are pretty? Is is based on what society deems beautiful? Is beautiful portrayed as thin, tall and long blonde hair? Honestly, people are considered pretty based on the symmetry of their face. Both men and women find another man or women pretty or handsome based on symmetry. However, what I wanted to focus on in today's For the Record post is how your daughter(s) define beauty. Often times what they feel is pretty is based on what they hear from their parents, what their friends at school talk about, the tv they watch and other media outlets. This is why what your children listen to, who they listen to and what they see shape their opinions about beauty.Be mindful when you talk about how much fat you've gained, or that long straight hair is "good hair" or that you are only pretty when you wear loads of make-up. Let's keep this in mind so we can avoid setting our girls up for failure by avoiding the creation of low self-esteem. Instead, let's serve as role models encouraging ALL their assets, all their positive characteristics and help them recognize their own unique beauty so they can be the confident women we hope they become.

Quick commercial, Ladies of Victory at RPC SDA Church is a great ministry for girls and young ladies (ages 5-18)In this ministry, we teach the girls/young ladies how to be confident, smart and pure young ladies not just for their parents, but for themselves and their future husbands. I really love this ministry and I'm happy to be a big sister.
